Wisconsin is located in North-Central United States in the Great Lakes and Midwest region. In this beautiful state lakes are plentiful with about 15,000 to be exact! The origin of Madison, the state’s capital, began in 1829 with the purchase of over one thousand acres by former federal judge, James Duane Doty. His intention was to build a city in the Four Lakes region. He named the city Madison after the fourth President of the United States.
One favorite winter past-times and traditions is ice fishing. In the summer months, fishing as well as hunting is also very popular. When people think of Wisconsin, cheese isn’t something that would come to mind but Wisconsin is one of the leading producers in the United States! Wisconsin produces cheese, milk, and butter, accounting for 40% of the nation’s cheese and 20% of its butter.
Are you a beer lover? Milwaukee, on Lake Michigan’s Western shore is known for its breweries and many of them offer tours complete with taste testing. Don’t forget to visit the Harley Davidson Museum to see the classic Harley Davidson motorcycles including one owned by Elvis Presley.
